Maybe it’s luck. Maybe it’s a gift. Or perhaps it’s simply a matter of finding the right person at the right time. There are talented artists in every town, and extraordinary people around every corner. I know this because I’ve been getting tattooed for nearly 25 years. I’ve traveled across the country and overseas, and for one reason or another, I had never returned to the same artist twice. Then, somehow, I found my person. Jaycee—AKA Lady J. What began as a first impression marked by confidence, talent, and an unmistakable creative ability has become something I genuinely value. I have now returned to her four times for a variety of pieces, adaptations, and ideas, and my truest intention is to continue that trend for as long as she’ll have me. There is something uniquely effortless about the way we work together. Through conversation, mutual understanding, and a kind of instinctive creative exchange, she has repeatedly taken what I envision and transformed it into something that feels unmistakably like me. Not simply what I imagined, but what I was hoping to express. That distinction matters. I’ve been called eccentric, and I suppose I’ll happily accept that. I tend to think and express things a little differently. What makes Jaycee exceptional is her ability to understand that difference and translate it into art. For those looking for the basics: Jaycee is an incredible artist. Her space is beautiful—clean, comfortable, professional, and welcoming. She listens. She understands. She takes your ideas seriously and somehow manages to match them in ways I’ve never experienced with another artist. And she is remarkably affordable for the level of talent and thought she brings to her work. But the real difference is her creativity. There are artists who can trace something beautifully, and there are artists who can reproduce a specific image with incredible precision. Jaycee can do those things, but she is so much more than that. She can draw, design, create, improvise, adapt, and see possibilities that aren’t necessarily obvious at first. She has a remarkable ability to take the best of what you bring to her and merge it with what will actually look beautiful on you and belong to you. My most recent visit was a tall ask. I asked her to design and fill in the background of my arm around a variety of existing pieces—each carrying its own meaning, history, and story. It was not a simple assignment. After thoughtful conversations, a great deal of trust, and her remarkable ability to understand what I was trying to accomplish, she instinctively found the answer. And then she went to work. What happened felt almost magical. She moved through the piece with an extraordinary confidence, creating a background that flowed, complemented, connected, and ultimately completed the work that had been accumulating on my arm over the course of my life. She didn’t simply fill the empty spaces. She brought everything together. She somehow saw the whole story. I can say with complete confidence that I don’t believe anyone else could have done it better. I am genuinely ecstatic with the result, and I already have future sessions planned. At this point, I’m a believer in Lady J. I trust her completely. I consider myself fortunate—not only to have found an artist of her ability, but to have connected with her, to know her, and to have the opportunity to spend time watching her do what she does best. There is something special about finding someone who can take the things you carry inside yourself and give them a visual language. Jaycee does that for me. Thank you, Jaycee. You are truly amazing. I have never been more thrilled with my tattoos than I am with the work you’ve done for me. You are not simply an artist. You are an extraordinary artist, a creative force, and someone I feel genuinely fortunate to have found. Lady J, you’re the best.
