Anatomy Tattoo—what a great shop! Everyone there is so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is light, airy—and spotlessly clean. It’s got an impressive array of artists, proficient in a wide range of styles. Lucky Malony is the artist I chose to help me realize tattoo number three—a 70th birthday present to myself. He has almost thirty years of tattooing experience, and his portfolio is full of lovely, unique, creative pieces. I had a sense about what I wanted this tattoo to be, and I was fairly specific about my preferred font, colors, and design concept. But I also wanted Lucky to build upon those ideas with some of his own. My no-cost, 15-minute consultation lasted about 30 minutes—but Lucky never made me feel rushed or bothersome. Two weeks later, Lucky showed me “our” design, come to life. It was pretty much exactly what I wanted, though I did ask for a few minor alterations—and Lucky easily complied. Although the tattooing went on about 30-minutes longer than anticipated, Lucky honored our negotiated price—which was very reasonable in the first place. I highly recommend both the shop, Anatomy Tattoo—and the Artist, Lucky Malony. As I was getting ready to exit the shop with my fresh tattoo, I said to Lucky that I was leaving “A happy man.” He replied that was what he liked to hear. Five stars all around!

I called Anatomy for walk-in availability on a Sunday. From answering the phone to leaving the studio after my appointment/tattoo, it was an absolutely wonderful experience. Lindsay did an amazing job on my tattoo and is just such a lovely human in general.

I had a friend tell me that she would decide if she would ever consider eating dinner at a friend's house based off of her first impression of said kitchen. I agree with that and also factor in the condition of the bathroom. Especially if there is no kitchen, as in this case, a business that does not serve you food. And thankfully with disposable needles, also does not serve Hep B. The baseline standard practice of the tattoo artist protecting themselves from your germs reigns in this establishment, and I am thankful that at least that barrier exists because there is certainly not a lot of frequent glove changes, or awareness of the need to change your gloves between for example, applying a transfer, adjusting tables and then popping a sterile needle out of its package and getting down to business otherwise. Nor was there any handwashing that occurred prior to getting down to business. So although I lean heavily on that single pair of sullied gloves between my immune system and whatever this shop might inherently harbor germ wise, I am at ease because of the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the shop in general. My own house pales in comparison (except of course my kitchen and bathrooms). And tbh, isnt getting a tattoo, and its inherent risk of infection or a barbed needle all part of the thrill of it all?! Jkjk. Truth be told, despite all the veiled criticism, this tattoo shop is the cleanest I've been to over the years, the artists are professional and speak kindly to each other and to their clients. Theres plenty of natural and supplemental light to see whats happening at all times. Considering this street is apparently tattoo boulevard, I was happy I chose this shop over the others!

I got to work with Jake 'Papa' Tong and he did amazing work. I've gotten two tattoos from him now and absolutely love them! The studio is clean and welcoming. I'm hoping to come back when I have the finances for my next piece!

If you don’t feel like reading this whole review, just know that Drew is THE person in Portland to go to if you want to feel cared for and go home with a flawlessly executed woodblock-style piece. ✨✨✨ Ok. So. I’ve been removing a large forearm tattoo for years and finally felt ready to start conversations about a coverup last summer. I was searching for an artist that specializes in woodblock/linocut pieces and I was instantly drawn to their style. In our initial consult, they were very real to me about the state of my tattoo and the style I was hoping to achieve, and gently encouraged me to continue laser treatments while still offering up solutions in the case I wanted to move forward. I ended up taking their advice and waited a year, which brought me to today and set me up for success. Knowing I was very anxious going into this due to my previous experiences, they were adamant about making sure I was ready and would be happy with the result. They put me right at ease and helped me go into the session with 100% confidence, which is so important when it comes to something permanent. They asked all the right questions to ensure they knew exactly what style of line work I wanted, and I am absolutely thrilled with the result. It’s such a unique style that’s hard to find in Portland, and they absolutely nailed it. I was originally planning to continue laser treatments on the rest, but I love it so much I may just decide to cover it all. Thanks for your patience with me, St. Drew 😉🙏 Can’t wait for the next one!
